So a few of you might know, I love Hellboy. Not in a fluid exchange kind of way, mind you.
So I saw this figure online and knew I had to have it. Bought it direct from a Hong Kong seller for $206 delivered (to England).
I'd heard about the downsides of HT stuff (some fragile parts/ weak knees etc), but I figured it wasn't going to see much play, so I'd be ok. Well, I got my package.
I opened the box and... the bastard was broken! Right knee joint snapped in the box. I'm not kidding when I say my heart sank. I emailed the seller, and he said just sent it back for a full refund (I'd be out the $48 to ship it back). I thought about it and asked him if he could do anything else, and he offered a $90 partial discount. I didn't know anything about HT construction or customer service a few weeks ago, but while I was thinking what to do (searching eBay for parts - there wasn't any), I found Hot Toys customer service.
They answered within a day of every email I sent. After showing them pics of the break and my invoice, they sent me out a replacement knee joint. Trouble was, I couldn't get the old one out. I emailed HT again, and they replied with detailed pics. They worked a treat! I fixed my HB, so in the end I got it for roughly half price ($110 delivered).
So here's a review! The box is awesome. Card outer sleeve with Red's face, and an inner window box presented almost like a DVD cover.
Outer box with embossed cogs -
Inner box -
The inner tray is vacuformed with all the spaces for the extra parts/ accessories. It's held in with four twist ties, and there's a few pieces of low tack tape to hold any parts that may move in transit (belt beads etc). There's insructions included.
Now some proper pics! The articulation on the top half isn't as good as regular figures due to the "lifelike skin". It has a rubber skin over a skeleton. Looks totally sweet, and you can still get pretty much all the signature poses. The neck articulation is particularly well done - it moves just like a real person. Also, the way it's made, the muscles actually flex! How cool is that?
He even posed for this one!
The headsculpt is frickin' insane. If you look at him on the shelf it actually loks like a miniaturised Ron Perlman. The details on the fabric are picture perfect also. These are honestly like real clothes. Real, lined material with all the proper buckles and fasteners.
Bendy tail -
Belt detail with holster, beads and shit -
Right hand of Doom - it's on a ball joint with and alternate open hand with bendy fingers.
The Samaritan. It opens and has removable bullets.
Big Baby shotgun with shells and alternate hands -
And that bastard broken joint lol
Now the only thing that could make this better is if it included extra pegs for the alternate hands. The way it is, you have to remove the hands, then the pegs, then swap over. Would be some much easier if HT just included the extra pegs. I might just cast some.
Here's a few extra stock photos -
Anyway, that's it. Enjoy!
