They never really said what it was, but I don't think it was supposed to be a robot, even if the toy was.

It looks very mechanical, it even had what appears to be a viewport that the guys are shooting at. Maybe a robot, maybe a vehicle of some kind? Regardless yours is more menacing.

Heh, the toy had a walking action that stopped when you shone a light at the red sensor. It was state of the art when it came out in the late seventies. I doubt it was supposed to be a robot though, just an alien of some kind.
